Overview

Route 2: Tulbagh, History & Golden Fields

Route 2 of Cape Camino is a multi-day walking route through Tulbagh and the Golden Fields of the Western Cape, offering an 8-day pilgrimage experience across historic wine farms, wide agricultural plains, and rural communities. The route begins in the heritage town of Tulbagh and follows farm roads, open veld, canal paths and quiet country tracks toward Koringberg, Wittewater and Goedverwacht. Daily distances range from approximately 14km to 26km, with predominantly flat terrain and expansive “big sky” landscapes typical of the Swartland region.

This Cape Camino route combines rural walking with cultural and historical depth, including encounters with historically marginalised communities and family-run farm stays. Accommodation is hosted by local farmers and village residents, creating a supported and community-connected walking experience. Route 2 is suited to walkers seeking heritage, open space and steady, contemplative mileage. It can be booked as a 3-day, 5-day or full 8-day Camino and may be combined with other Cape Camino routes as part of a longer Western Cape pilgrimage journey.
